Client Spotlight: Nicole Vardo

I love motivating others, I love helping others reach their goals, and most importantly I love helping others with their confidence. The reason I love helping people with their self-esteem is because I too once suffered from insecurities about my body and health. I hated the way my body looked and how I felt. I would skip meals and feel guilty about having a bad meal. I would over do cardio, but would go home and eat everything.  I was just lost, but had no motivation or anyone to help motivate me. Ever since I have dedicated myself to health and fitness, I promised myself that I would never let myself feel like that again and that I help those who needed guidance. 

I decided to write blogs and post information that would be easily accessible to those who needed direction. (For example workouts, recipes, motivation, and tips) I also wanted this blog to show women that we are all similar and busy, but are one decision a day away from changing our lives.  Yes we all have full- time jobs, go to school, or are just too busy for anything, but a good diet and fitting in JUST 3 hours a week of working out can be the biggest life changer. {more...}

People That Inspire Me | My Momma (Part III)

"Getting ready for a show isn’t just a physical thing, but also a mental thing. Surround yourself with people who will help motivate you and who are positive influences in your life. No one likes people who bring you down."

I am truly blessed with an amazing mother. She is very supportive of the many things I do. She always tells me that all that matters to her is that I am happy.   

When I first came to her with the idea of wanting to do a bikini show she was completely for it. She told me that I could do anything I set my mind to. I knew that there would be tough times, but my mom is very positive and I knew that she would encourage me. So far, my mom has done a great job with encouraging and supporting me. Every once in a while I get mad at her for buying fast food or goodies and leaving them right in my plain sight of view. The first couple of weeks it would really get to me, but now I am so use to it that I look over them. It is a good thing I would say. Old me wouldn’t be able to deal with yummy food in front of me without eating it. 

There are times when I feel discouraged and don't feel like I am good enough, skinny enough, pretty enough to compete (we all have those days), but my mom is right there motivating me and helping me keep focused. I am so thankful for a mom who believes in me more than I believe in myself at times. I think we all need someone like that.... {more}

Beauty Bum Secrets, I Love You

            As a girl, I have always been self-conscious about cellulite. Every girl has it unfortunately.  Some women have very little of it and others have a lot. We all have it in different areas for example arms, legs, butt, stomach, etc. It has always been something that has made me think twice about what I am going to wear that day.

            I first noticed it in high school. When I was in high school I never really worried about what I ate. I would eat whatever I wanted, I wasn’t fat, but I wasn’t skinny either. It was not until I graduated high school that I realized that the back of my legs had a lot of cellulite and it had gotten worse. Once I started to diet correctly and exercise daily I noticed that my cellulite was less visible. I was so happy and that just goes to show that nutrition and working out plays a huge role in its presence. It motivates me to diet and train consistently because ain’t nobody got time for cellulite. Lol....

People Who Inspire Me | Shane And Lizzie Martinez (Part One)

 Have you ever met people who have completely changed your life?  About four years at the beginning of May, I met Shane and Lizzie Martinez. Since that day, my life has forever changed. I never knew what I was capable of. They hired me as a trainer after months of shadowing and after getting my certification. It was the best thing that has ever happened to me. 
 

Yes, they are my bosses, but most importantly I consider them my family. Whenever I was having a bad day or stressed out with work and school they have always been there encouraging me to pursue my dreams. They have supported me through everything and have never left my side. I am truly blessed and I do not know where I would be without their guidance, love, and wisdom.

No Excuses | Eating Clean While You Are Out Of Town

" I tell myself whenever I want to cheat or give up, I remember why I started. "

I was out of town this weekend in Albuquerque supporting my boyfriend and my best friend as they competed in a bodybuilding show. After they competed all they did was eat all the bad food they could get their hands on. I'm training to get ready for a bikini show in September and I haven't had a cheat meal in five weeks. It was torture watching them eating Mexican food, candy, doughnuts, burgers, fries, pizza and the list goes on and on.

I ate my food that I took in a cooler and at restaurants I would order some sort of protein (chicken, beef, steak) and a side of veggies. You can order healthier options, you don't always have to be tempted to have a burger and fries. At one restaurant they all had a burger and Fries and I ordered a burger without the bun and asparagus. I tell myself whenever I want to cheat or give up, I remember why I started.

Bikini Prep| It's Progress Report Time


 So one of the things I have to do through this bikini prep is report my progress back to my coach. That means once a week I have to email her details about how my workouts and eating are going.  Also, once a month I have to send her progress pictures of myself in a bikini from the front, back and side angles. As my show date gets closer (September 6,2014) I will have to send pictures every week to make sure I am right on track. A lot can change in a matter of days so you always have to stay on top of things when it comes to peak week.

            I feel like I am a student and that she is my teacher. This feels like an online course. Having to keep track of doing my workouts and staying on track with the eating is like my homework. Sending her the progress pictures is like submitting in my final exam that I have been working on all month. Her feedback feels like my grade evaluation. I know weird way to compare things and tie them together, but that I couldn’t have put it any other way. {more after the jump!}
